Ingredients
- 1 bunch Swiss chard (about 1 pound)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (about 1/2 a lemon)
Instructions
- Start by washing the Swiss chard thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat it dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
- Cut the thick stems from the chard leaves and slice the stems into small pieces. Chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and optional red pepper flakes, cooking for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.
- Add the chopped chard stems to the pan and sauté for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
- Add the chard leaves to the skillet, sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Stir to combine, and cook for another 2-4 minutes until the leaves are wilted and tender.
- Once the chard is cooked, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the lemon juice evenly over the chard. Adjust seasoning as needed to taste.
- Transfer the chard to a serving dish. Serve hot as a side dish alongside your favorite entrée.
