Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cups snow peas, trimmed
- 1 can (8 oz) sliced water chestnuts, drained
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt to taste
- Ground black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Start by preparing your vegetables. Trim the ends off the snow peas and ensure they are washed and dried. Drain the can of water chestnuts well.
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. It’s important to let the pan get hot before adding oil.
- Add the vegetable oil to the pan. Swirl the pan slightly to distribute the oil evenly. Be careful as the oil may splatter.
- Add the minced garlic to the hot oil, stirring constantly for about 30 seconds. This will release the garlic’s aroma, but don’t allow it to brown too much as it could turn bitter.
- Add the snow peas to the skillet. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until they are bright green and crisp-tender. Keep the vegetables moving in the pan to ensure even cooking.
- Add the sliced water chestnuts to the pan. Stir them in with the snow peas and garlic, cooking for an additional 2 minutes to heat them through.
- Pour in the soy sauce and sesame oil. Toss everything together to coat the vegetables evenly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Transfer the stir-fry to a serving dish.
- If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for added flavor and texture. Serve immediately.
- Tip: Make sure to not overcook the vegetables; they should remain crunchy and fresh. If you like more heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic.
