Ingredients

  • 1 bunch broccoli rabe, about 1 pound
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, sliced thin
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Lemon wedges for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
  2. Trim about 1-inch from the stem ends of the broccoli rabe to remove any tough parts.
  3. Add the trimmed broccoli rabe to the boiling water and blanch for about 2 minutes until it turns bright green.
  4. Drain the broccoli rabe in a colander and immediately run cold water over it to stop the cooking process.
  5. In a large, deep sauté pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and red pepper flakes if using.
  6. Once the garlic is fragrant and starting to turn golden, add the drained broccoli rabe.
  7. Sauté the broccoli rabe, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes until tender.
  8. Season the broccoli rabe with salt and black pepper. Adjust seasonings to taste.
  9. Serve warm, with lemon wedges on the side if desired.
