Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh asparagus
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, about 375°F to 400°F. If you are using a charcoal grill, prepare your grill with enough coals to create medium-high heat on one half of the grill.
- Rinse the asparagus under running water and pat dry with paper towels. Drying them well will help them grill better and prevent steaming.
- Trim the woody ends from the asparagus by either snapping them off or cutting with a knife, about 1 to 2 inches from the base.
- In a large bowl, toss the asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper to ensure each piece is evenly coated.
- Place the asparagus spears in a single layer directly onto the preheated grill grates perpendicular to the bars to prevent them from falling through.
- Grill the asparagus for about 3 to 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender and slightly charred. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning. If they are charring too quickly, move them to a cooler part of the grill.
- Once grilled, remove the asparagus from the grill and transfer them to a serving plate.
- Drizzle the grilled asparagus with lemon juice and sprinkle with lemon zest and Parmesan cheese if using. Serve immediately.
