Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bunch garlic chives (about 1 cup), trimmed and cut into 2-inch lengths
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Heat a large frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and let it heat up for about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the pan and stir-fry for 30 seconds or until fragrant. Be careful not to let it burn by continuously stirring.
  3. Add the garlic chives to the pan. Stir well to coat them with the garlic and oil, and cook for about 2 minutes.
  4. Tip: Make sure your garlic chives are completely dry before adding them to the pan to avoid oil splatter.
  5. Add the soy sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture continuously for another minute.
  6. Pour in the water and cover the pan with a lid. Allow the chives to steam for about 2 more minutes, or until they are tender but still bright green.
  7. Remove the lid and give the chives one last stir. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  8. Serve hot as a standalone dish or as a side with rice or noodles.
