Ingredients
- 1 large cauliflower head, cut into bite-sized florets
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Start by cutting the cauliflower into bite-sized florets and washing them thoroughly. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess water.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 large egg, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon paprika, and salt and pepper to taste. Slowly add 1 cup of cold water, stirring continuously until you get a smooth batter. The key is the batter should coat the back of a spoon.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Use a deep-fry thermometer to ensure the correct temperature for crispy cauliflower.
- Dip the cauliflower florets into the batter, ensuring they’re nicely coated. Let any excess batter drip off before carefully placing them into the hot oil.
- Fry the cauliflower in batches, being careful not to crowd the pot. Fry each batch for 4-5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried cauliflower to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Sprinkle a little extra salt over the hot fried cauliflower for added flavor, if desired. Serve immediately for the best texture. Enjoy your delicious homemade Fried Cauliflower!
- If you want a little extra spice, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the batter. For a dipping sauce, consider a simple mixture of mayo and hot sauce or a creamy garlic aioli.
