Ingredients
- 8 large sea scallops
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the scallops by patting them dry with a paper towel. Dry scallops are key to achieving a good sear.
- Step 2: Season both sides of the scallops with salt and black pepper. This simple seasoning helps to enhance the natural flavor of the scallops.
- Step 3: Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Make sure the skillet is well-heated before adding the scallops. This will help develop a nice golden crust.
- Step 4: Carefully add the scallops to the skillet, leaving space between them to ensure even cooking. Sear the scallops for about 2-3 minutes on one side, without moving them, until you see a golden crust forming.
- Step 5: Flip the scallops using a spatula or tongs and add unsalted butter to the skillet. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes. Cooking time may vary slightly depending on the size of the scallops. They are done when they are firm to touch but still soft in the center.
- Step 6: Add lemon juice to the skillet and spoon the melted butter and lemon juice over the scallops for an additional burst of flavor.
- Step 7: Remove scallops from the skillet and place on a serving plate. Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley for garnish.
