Ingredients
- 1 pound ground lamb
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup tomato sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). This will ensure it’s at the right temperature when you’re ready to bake the meatballs.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, parsley, oregano, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together with your hands or a spoon until all the ingredients are well combined. Be sure not to overmix, as this can make the meatballs tough.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. If the mixture is too sticky, dampen your hands with a bit of water.
- Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, add the meatballs in a single layer. Cook them for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides. You may need to do this in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Once browned, pour the tomato sauce over the meatballs in the skillet. Be sure to spoon some sauce over each meatball to keep them moist and flavorful while they bake.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
- Remove from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This rest time allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the meatballs juicy.
- Serve the lamb meatballs warm with the sauce spooned over them. They make a great meal when served with rice, pasta, or a fresh salad.
