Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the batter by mixing 1 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper in a shallow dish. This will add flavor to the shrimp.
- In a separate bowl, beat together 2 eggs and 1/4 cup of milk until well combined. This will help the coating adhere to the shrimp. Another shallow dish with breadcrumbs should be laid out for dredging.
- Dip each shrimp first into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. This forms the base of the coating.
- Next, dip the shrimp into the egg mixture to ensure an even coating, then roll in breadcrumbs, pressing gently for even coverage. This creates a crispy outer layer.
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. The oil is ready when a breadcrumb dropped into it sizzles immediately. Tip: Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches 350°F for optimal frying.
- Carefully place shrimp in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. The shrimp should be cooked until opaque. Tip: Remove shrimp with a slotted spoon and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
- Serve the golden fried shrimp hot with lemon wedges. They can also be served with cocktail sauce or tartar sauce for added flavor.
