Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter by mixing 1 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper in a shallow dish. This will add flavor to the shrimp.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat together 2 eggs and 1/4 cup of milk until well combined. This will help the coating adhere to the shrimp. Another shallow dish with breadcrumbs should be laid out for dredging.
  3. Dip each shrimp first into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. This forms the base of the coating.
  4. Next, dip the shrimp into the egg mixture to ensure an even coating, then roll in breadcrumbs, pressing gently for even coverage. This creates a crispy outer layer.
  5. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. The oil is ready when a breadcrumb dropped into it sizzles immediately. Tip: Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches 350°F for optimal frying.
  6. Carefully place shrimp in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. The shrimp should be cooked until opaque. Tip: Remove shrimp with a slotted spoon and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  7. Serve the golden fried shrimp hot with lemon wedges. They can also be served with cocktail sauce or tartar sauce for added flavor.
