Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 corn tortillas
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup shredded lettuce for garnish
- 1/2 cup crumbled queso fresco for garnish
- 1/2 cup sour cream for garnish
- 1/2 cup salsa for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the cooked shredded chicken, ground cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the chicken is evenly coated with the spices.
- Warm the corn tortillas in the microwave for about 20 seconds on a microwave-safe plate, or until they are soft and pliable. This will make them easier to roll without cracking.
- Place about 2 tablespoons of the spiced chicken mixture onto each tortilla, slightly off-center. Tightly roll the tortilla around the filling and secure with a toothpick to hold its shape.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F. Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is hot enough.
- Carefully place 3-4 flautas in the hot oil seam-side down and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden and crispy. Use tongs to turn them gently.
- Remove the flautas with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve the flautas immediately on a platter with shredded lettuce, crumbled queso fresco, sour cream, and salsa on the side for garnish and dipping.
