Ingredients

  • 4 fish fillets (such as tilapia, cod, or haddock, 6 oz each)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup capers, drained
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Lightly coat the fish fillets with flour. Shake off any excess flour.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully add the fish fillets to the skillet.
  4. Cook the fish fillets for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Transfer the fillets to a plate and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  5. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add the butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Add the capers, lemon juice, and chicken broth to the skillet. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce slightly.
  7. Return the fish fillets to the skillet and spoon the sauce over them. Allow them to heat through for another minute.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley and lemon slices if desired. Serve immediately.
