Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin, sliced thinly
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 large tomatoes, diced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 tsp red pepper flakes for heat
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Instructions
- Begin by preparing all the ingredients. Slice the beef thinly, chop the onion, mince the garlic, and dice the tomatoes. Also, chop the basil leaves.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat (around 375°F). Add the onions and sauté for about 3 minutes until they become translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and stir for another 30 seconds, being careful not to let it burn.
- Add the sliced beef to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned on all sides. Use tongs to occasionally turn the beef for even cooking.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, soy sauce, and balsamic vinegar. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes. The tomatoes should start breaking down into a sauce.
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes to taste. Adjust the seasoning gradually to avoid over-salting.
- Finally, stir in the fresh basil and allow the flavors to combine over low heat for 2 minutes. This will brighten the dish and balance flavors.
- Remove from heat and serve hot. This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of rice or crusty bread.
