Ingredients
- 4 trout fillets (about 6 oz each)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves or 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures the oven is ready to cook evenly as soon as you put the trout in.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup. If using foil, you can lightly grease it with olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Place the trout fillets on the baking sheet, skin side down. Pat the fillets dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture, which helps in crisping the skin.
- Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil evenly over the trout fillets. This helps in keeping the fish moist during baking.
- Season the trout with salt, pepper, and minced garlic. Be generous with the seasoning for better flavor.
- Place thin slices of lemon over each fillet. Use fresh lemon for a burst of citrus flavor.
- Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme) over the trout. Fresh herbs enhance the flavor, but dried can be used in a pinch.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the trout is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. You can also check for doneness with a meat thermometer; it should reach an internal temperature of 145°F.
- Once baked, remove the trout from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Resting allows the juices to redistribute within the fish.
- Garnish the trout with 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley before serving. It adds freshness and a pop of color to the dish.
