Ingredients

  • 4 trout fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves or 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures the oven is ready to cook evenly as soon as you put the trout in.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup. If using foil, you can lightly grease it with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Place the trout fillets on the baking sheet, skin side down. Pat the fillets dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture, which helps in crisping the skin.
  4. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil evenly over the trout fillets. This helps in keeping the fish moist during baking.
  5. Season the trout with salt, pepper, and minced garlic. Be generous with the seasoning for better flavor.
  6. Place thin slices of lemon over each fillet. Use fresh lemon for a burst of citrus flavor.
  7. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme) over the trout. Fresh herbs enhance the flavor, but dried can be used in a pinch.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the trout is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. You can also check for doneness with a meat thermometer; it should reach an internal temperature of 145°F.
  9. Once baked, remove the trout from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Resting allows the juices to redistribute within the fish.
  10. Garnish the trout with 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley before serving. It adds freshness and a pop of color to the dish.
