Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well using a whisk.
- In another bowl, mix together the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Make sure the butter has cooled slightly so it doesn’t cook the other ingredients.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir with a spoon until a dough forms. The dough should be soft but not sticky. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough gently for about a minute, then let it rest for 10 minutes to relax the gluten. This step helps in achieving a softer dough.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Use a deep-fry thermometer to maintain the right temperature; too hot can burn the dough, too cool will make it greasy.
- Divide the dough into small portions, about the size of a golf ball. Flatten each portion slightly with your hands.
- Carefully place dough pieces into the hot oil using tongs. Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- Remove the fried dough and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil. Continue frying the rest of the dough.
- Once slightly cooled, sprinkle powdered sugar over the fried dough for a sweet finish. Serve warm.
