Ingredients
- 1 cup glutinous rice flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/4 cup sweetened red bean paste or lotus seed paste
- 1/2 cup white sesame seeds
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of glutinous rice flour with 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Gradually add 1/3 cup of water while stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 3 minutes until it is smooth and pliable. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, a teaspoon at a time.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
- Flatten each dough ball into a disc, place 1 teaspoon of sweetened red bean paste or lotus seed paste in the center, and carefully pinch the edges together to seal. Roll the filled dough back into a ball shape.
- Spread 1/2 cup of white sesame seeds on a flat surface. Roll each filled dough ball in the sesame seeds to coat evenly.
- Fill a deep fryer or large pot with vegetable oil, at least 2 inches deep, and heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully lower the sesame balls into the hot oil using a slotted spoon, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry the sesame balls for about 6-8 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. Make sure to turn them occasionally for even cooking.
- Remove the sesame balls from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve the sesame balls warm. They can also be enjoyed at room temperature.
