Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup Amaretto liqueur
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate medium bowl, beat the eggs. Stir in the melted butter, buttermilk, Amaretto liqueur, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, which can make the cake tough.
- Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. It will be quite thin, but this is okay. Lastly, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and gently tap the pan on the counter to remove any air bubbles.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. This prevents the cake from becoming too moist at the bottom.
- For best flavor, let the cake rest for a few hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld beautifully.
- Optionally, dust the cake with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream for an elegant touch.
