Ingredients
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons (45g) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) orange blossom water or vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, melted butter, milk, and orange blossom water (or vanilla extract).
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch (3mm) thickness. Cut into strips or diamond shapes using a knife or pastry cutter.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the dough pieces in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown (about 2 minutes per side).
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy warm!
- Tip: For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of grated orange or lemon zest to the dough.
