Ingredients

  • 3 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash and pat dry the tomatoes thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Arrange the slices on a large serving platter in a single layer.
  2. Drain the mozzarella if necessary and slice it into similar 1/4-inch thick rounds as the tomatoes. Place the mozzarella slices directly on top of the tomato slices.
  3. Rinse the fresh basil leaves under cold water and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Scatter the whole basil leaves over the tomato and mozzarella slices.
  4. Drizzle the olive oil evenly over the salad. Follow with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, ensuring to cover the entire dish lightly.
