Ingredients
- 1 cup of cabbage, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup of carrots, grated
- 1/4 cup of shiitake mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup of spring onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 24 round dumpling wrappers
- Water for sealing the dumplings
Instructions
- Start by preparing your vegetables. Finely chop the cabbage, mushrooms, and spring onions; grate the carrots; and mince the garlic.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, spring onions, and garlic.
- Add soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper to the vegetable mixture. Stir well to combine. Taste to adjust the seasoning if necessary.
- Prepare your workspace by laying out the dumpling wrappers on a clean, dry surface. Have a small bowl of water ready.
- Place a teaspoon of the vegetable filling in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Avoid overfilling to prevent the dumplings from bursting during steaming.
- Dip your finger in water and run it along the edge of the dumpling wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the filling to create a half moon shape. Press the edges together firmly to seal.
- Repeat the process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Arrange the dumplings in a single layer in a bamboo steamer lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. Ensure they are not touching to allow even cooking.
- Fill a large pot with a few inches of water and bring it to a boil. Place the bamboo steamer on top, ensuring it is not submerged in the water.
- Steam the dumplings over medium-high heat for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dumpling wrappers are translucent and the filling is heated through. Tip: Avoid opening the steamer too often as this will release the steam and slow down cooking.
- Serve the dumplings hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
