Ingredients
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- 24 dumpling wrappers
- Water, for sealing
- Soy sauce, for serving
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch, for dusting
Instructions
- First, cut the shrimp into small pieces. This will make the texture of the filling uniform and cook evenly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger, 2 cloves minced garlic, 2 finely chopped green onions, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon white pepper. Mix until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Prepare your workspace by dusting a tray with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. This will prevent the dumplings from sticking.
- Take one dumpling wrapper and place it flat in your hand. Add about 1 tablespoon of the shrimp mixture to the center of the wrapper.
- Dip your finger in a small bowl of water and lightly moisten the edges of the wrapper. This will help seal the dumpling.
- Fold the wrapper in half to form a half-moon shape and press the edges together firmly to seal. Ensure there are no air pockets inside. Crimp the edges if desired for a decorative finish.
- Place the dumpling onto the cornstarch-dusted tray. Repeat the process until all the shrimp mixture has been used, aiming to make about 20 dumplings.
- Set up a steamer. If using a bamboo steamer, line it with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. If using a metal steamer, lightly oil the steamer basket.
- Bring water in a pot to a boil, then reduce to a medium simmer. The steam will cook the dumplings, so ensure the water level is below the steamer basket.
- Place the dumplings in the steamer basket, leaving space between each so they don’t stick together during cooking.
- Steam the dumplings for about 8-10 minutes, or until they are translucent and the shrimp is cooked through.
- Carefully remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve hot with soy sauce for dipping. Enjoy your delicious steamed shrimp dumplings!
