Ingredients
- 1 ripe cantaloupe or honeydew melon
- 8 thin slices of prosciutto
- 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze (optional)
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
- Freshly cracked black pepper to taste (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Melon. Place the melon on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, slice off the top and bottom ends. Stand the melon upright and carefully cut away the skin, following the curve of the melon. Cut the melon in half and scoop out the seeds with a spoon.
- If you’re unsure about handling a large melon, you can ask for help at the grocery store to have it pre-sliced, or use pre-packaged melon slices.
- Step 2: Slice the Melon. Lay the melon halves flat on the cutting board, then slice each half into 8 thin wedges. Try to make them even in size for a nice presentation.
- Step 3: Wrap with Prosciutto. Take one slice of prosciutto and gently wrap it around the center of each melon wedge. Repeat for all melon slices.
- Step 4: Arrange and Serve. Arrange the prosciutto-wrapped melon slices on a serving platter. If desired, drizzle with balsamic glaze and garnish with fresh mint leaves for added flavor and appearance.
- For a touch of spice, sprinkle some freshly cracked black pepper over the top just before serving.
- Step 5: Chill and Enjoy. Place the platter in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld together. Serve chilled and enjoy your delightful appetizer!
