Ingredients
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup finely chopped water chestnuts
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 24 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground pork, green onions, water chestnuts, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Tip: Use your hands for better mixing.
- Place one wonton wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Keep the rest of the wrappers covered with a damp kitchen towel to prevent drying.
- Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the pork mixture into the center of the wrapper. Be careful not to overfill.
- Lightly dampen the edges of the wrapper with water using your fingertip.
- Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal. Make sure to remove any air pockets. Tip: Press out excess air from inside the wonton to avoid bursting during frying.
- Repeat the filling and folding process with remaining wrappers and filling.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- Carefully lower a few wontons into the hot oil using a slotted spoon. Do not overcrowd the pot.
- Fry wontons in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.
- Remove wontons from oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. Tip: Keep fried wontons warm in a low oven (200°F) until ready to serve.
