Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped water chestnuts
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground pork, green onions, water chestnuts, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Tip: Use your hands for better mixing.
  2. Place one wonton wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Keep the rest of the wrappers covered with a damp kitchen towel to prevent drying.
  3. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the pork mixture into the center of the wrapper. Be careful not to overfill.
  4. Lightly dampen the edges of the wrapper with water using your fingertip.
  5. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal. Make sure to remove any air pockets. Tip: Press out excess air from inside the wonton to avoid bursting during frying.
  6. Repeat the filling and folding process with remaining wrappers and filling.
  7. Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
  8. Carefully lower a few wontons into the hot oil using a slotted spoon. Do not overcrowd the pot.
  9. Fry wontons in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.
  10. Remove wontons from oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. Tip: Keep fried wontons warm in a low oven (200°F) until ready to serve.
