Ingredients
- 8 small mantou (Chinese steamed buns)
- 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk, for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Start by carefully slicing the mantou in half horizontally. If they’re frozen, allow them to thaw at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
- In a deep, heavy-bottomed pan, pour in the vegetable oil. The oil should be about 1 inch deep. Heat the oil over medium heat to 350°F. Tip: Use a kitchen thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the right temperature.
- Once the oil is hot, gently place the mantou halves into the oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them in batches if needed.
- Fry the mantou for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they turn a nice golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to carefully flip them.
- Remove the fried mantou from the oil and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve the fried mantou warm, optionally with a side of sweetened condensed milk for dipping.
