Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place a rack in the middle of the oven for even roasting.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, add 2 cups of raw peanuts. Ensure they are unsalted and skinless for the best result.
  3. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over the peanuts and stir well to coat them evenly. You can use a spatula or simply your hands.
  4. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of Chinese five-spice powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar over the peanuts. Stir thoroughly so that each peanut is well-coated with the spice mixture.
  5. Spread the peanuts out in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This will help prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes. This ensures the peanuts roast evenly and do not burn. Watch closely during the last 5 minutes.
  7. Once done, remove from the oven and let the peanuts cool on the baking sheet. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
  8. Once completely cooled, store the peanuts in an airtight container. They can be enjoyed immediately or kept fresh for up to two weeks.
