Ingredients
- 8 fresh figs
- 4 oz (115g) soft goat cheese or blue cheese
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). A properly heated oven is crucial for even cooking.
- Rinse the figs gently under cool water and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Clean figs are essential for the best flavor and presentation.
- Using a sharp knife, make an ‘X’ cut in the top of each fig, about halfway down. Be careful not to cut all the way through. This will help hold the cheese and give the figs a pleasant look.
- Place the figs onto a baking dish. The dish should be small enough so the figs support each other and stay upright.
- Gently open each fig and fill the center with about half a tablespoon of soft cheese. You might need to adjust this amount depending on the size of the figs.
- Drizzle the olive oil and honey over the figs. This will add a beautiful glaze and enhance the sweetness of the figs.
- Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves, a pinch of salt, and black pepper over the figs to taste. Adjust seasonings according to your preference.
- Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 15 minutes, until the figs are soft and the cheese is slightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes before serving. Allowing them to cool slightly helps the flavors meld together.
- For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of chopped walnuts or pistachios before baking.
